A remarkable audience has shown up to the Remembrance Day Service at the Esplanade in Medicine Hat, showing great support for veterans.

Almost the entire crowd at the Esplanade joined the parade following the service.

Member of the British Empire and 40-year vet, Edward Devine said Medicine Hat brings the best show and parade he has seen in the 40 years he has been in the military.

“It makes me very proud to be a veteran. We must not forget these veterans who have paid the ultimate price in war,” Devine said.

“We have many veterans in Medicine Hat that suffer from mental illness, from physical illness,” he added.

“We have a Remembrance Day parade that happens once a year, but vets should be remembered every day of the year.”

Devine said he is very appreciative of the support from the municipal politicians

“We had the Mayor giving her endorsement to support the veterans of Medicine Hat,” Devine said.

“And I know a couple of people from the new council, [like] Councillor Ted Clugston, who is a big supporter of veterans. And I think people on this council will be supporters of veterans,” he added.

“The Mayor and councillors will certainly get the backing of the citizens because I know the citizens very much respect veterans in Medicine Hat.”
