City of Brooks has agreed to purchase the Oasis Theatre from Landmark Cinemas

Nov 12, 2025 | 10:08 AM

The Oasis Theatre from Landmark Cinemas in Brooks will be purchased by their city for $100,000 after entering into a tentative agreement.

Included in the theatre’s purchase is the land, building, furniture, and equipment.

In a letter from Brooks Mayor Norm Gerestein, the City of Brooks plans to refurbish and re-open the property through a non-profit society currently in development.

The theatre has been closed since Dec. 22, 2023.

Rather than letting the theatre sit unused, it will operate as a community entertainment and event centre, to bring culture and activity into downtown Brooks, Gerestein said in his letter.

The original listing price was much higher than the amount the city had paid, representing a cost-effective investment for the community.

The purchase is funded from capital reserves and will not affect the operational budget, according to Gerestein.

Gerestein said the revitalized theatre can increase foot traffic, support surrounding businesses, and contribute to a more vibrant and active core, bringing economic value to downtown Brooks.
