Medicine Hat man charged with arson after grass fire near Gas City Campground

A 39-year-old Medicine Hat man is facing a charge of arson after a grass fire near Gas City Campground.

Medicine Hat Police Service responded to a report of a fire in an open grassy area near 11 Avenue SW and Ninth Street SW on Saturday.

Upon arrival, officers learned that a male suspect had fled the scene.

The man was quickly located and apprehended after assistance from members of the public.

He was held for a judicial interim release hearing and released, with a scheduled appearance in provincial court on Nov. 25.
