Medicine Hat Patrol Officers arrested a man for possession of a prohibited firearm

Medicine Hat patrol officers have arrested 24-year-old Marshall Kilcup for possession of a prohibited firearm after conducting a vehicle search.

According to the Medicine Hat Police Service, a GSG semi-automatic .22-calibre rifle, along with controlled substances, were found in the vehicle.

Police said Kilcup was found to be violating a court-imposed 24-hour curfew and was arrested for breaching those conditions, resulting in Kilcup getting charged with the following offences:

• careless storage of a firearm
• unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
• knowing possession of a prohibited firearm
• possession of a firearm in a vehicle
• possession of a controlled substance (two counts)
• failure to comply with a release order (three counts)

The patrol officers conducted a traffic stop of the suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of 10 Street S.E. on Oct. 24, 2025, at approximately 5:30 a.m.

Kilcup was held for a judicial interim release hearing and has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Medicine Hat Court of Justice on Oct. 28, 2025.
