Silver medals at ACAC Championships for a pair of Medicine Hat College Rattlers teams

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers men’s soccer team is taking home the silver medal from the ACAC Championship, hosted in Raymond by Lethbridge Polytechnic.

After winning two games to reach the finals, the Rattlers lost 1-0 on Sunday in the gold medal game to the NAIT Ooks.

The Ooks repeat as champions and earned a spot in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Nationals in Quebec from Nov. 5-8.

The Rattlers made their way to the final game with wins over The King’s University 4-3 on Friday and 3-0 over Keyano College on Saturday.

Three members of the Rattlers team were named to the All-Tournament team: Aleksa Bijelic, De’Shaunt Gelinas-Cato, and Matheus Tavares.

Bijelic was also named the ACAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Year for the South Division before the tournament.

Overall, the Rattlers Men finished both the regular season and the championship with a record of 11-2.

The Rattlers’ cross-country running team competed in the ACAC Championships in Grande Prairie on Saturday.

The women’s team took home second, with the men finishing fourth.

This is the best combined result in the cross country program’s history.

Fourth-year runner Maddie Scrimger and rookie Pheonix Asprey led the way for the Rattlers women.

Scrimger’s time of 23:48 over the technical 6 km course put her in fourth spot.

Asprey was 70 seconds behind her teammate, taking seventh.

Both athletes were awarded with All-Conference honours.

Other Rattlers competing in the women’s race included:

• Ellie Barlow at 28th
• Addison Weir at 37th
• Presley Brennan at 38th
• Aki Iwata at 40th
• Ciana Catonio at 45th
• Riley Knapp at 47th
• Hannah Ulm at 48th
• Ava Dyck at 51st
• Elise Stark at 54th.

Rookie Logan Pancoast finished in top spot among the Rattlers men, and seventh overall, with a time of 27:45 over the 8 km course.

Pancoast was named to the All-Conference team.

Four other Rattlers also ran in the men’s 8 km.

• Askia Tahirou placed 16th
• Spencer Wilson was 28th
• Keegan Kolody finished 31st
• Griffin Goodfellow was 52nd

Asprey and Pancoast were also named as the ACAC Cross Country Rookies of the Year for their respective genders.

The ACAC season has concluded, but several Rattlers athletes will be heading to P.E.I. on Nov. 8 to take part in the CCAA National meet.
