Bishop in third at halfway mark of CCAA golf nationals at Desert Blume Golf Club

Wyatt Bishop of the Medicine Hat College Rattlers’ golf team sits in third place at the midway point of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s National Championship at Desert Blume Golf Course.

Bishop is two shots back of the lead after shooting a 5-under-par 67 on day two, Wednesday, the best single-day score of the tournament. On Monday, he had scored a par 72

Bishop is no stranger to low scores at Desert Blume. He set the course record on his home course earlier this summer with a 60 from the black tees on Aug. 1.

The Rattlers shared a post to social media of Bishop teeing off on Wednesday.

The leader heading into day three is Thomas Grenier from CEGEP Champlain St. Lawrence in Quebec City, Que., after carding a 69 and 68 through two days to sit at 7-under par.

SAIT’s Jadan Patel sits in second spot at 6-under, with rounds of 70 and 68.

Four strokes separate the top three men’s golfers from the rest of the field. Only five golfers in the field of now 47 are at par or better.

The four other men competing for the Rattlers are Keelan Burzminski, who sits in 17th at 7-over, Rylan Hodgson, who is in 29th with 12-over, Hayden King, who is 32nd at 14-over, and Isaac Stehr, who is in 40th with 21-over.

On the women’s side of the event, three Rattlers are competing.

Ava Bratvold sits in 14th at 47-over par, Kiara Reesor is one spot back at 49-over, and Zoe Hodgson is in 21st at 79-over.

Sodia DeZordo of CEGEP Champlain St. Lawrence and Susan Chen of Toronto’s Humber Polytechnic share the women’s lead at 7-over par.

The public is invited to watch the event, which will conclude on Friday afternoon.

Scores are being posted through the CCAA website during each round.
