Councillor candidate Fedoruk brings the ability to work in struggling situations to council in Medicine Hat

Medicine Hat councillor candidate Don Fedoruk said he is seeing struggling situations in the current city council and believes he can provide support to help those situations.

“They’re unable to really gel and come together as a team, and because of that, there have been a lot of problems,” Fedoruk said.

“And I think I could work well in a struggling situation just by bringing respect into that situation [working as a team].”

Fedoruk said he is looking to be a strong advocate for the 24-hour foot and bicycle patrol in downtown Medicine Hat.

“I think a 24-hour patrol in the downtown core would send a strong message to the city,” Fedoruk said.

“That would give a lot better coverage for downtown businesses there. They would appreciate that kind of support.”

The foot and bicycle patrol will add an extra level of security and bring more businesses downtown, according to Fedoruk.

“And I think it would get a handle on vandalism, on the petty crime and all sorts of different social disorders that take place downtown,” Fedoruk said.

This is the first time Fedoruk has run for council, but has experience on the board of directors throughout the years and experience in other areas.

“I’ve been on the board of directors for the Spitz Sunflower Seeds Company, and I’m currently on the board of directors with the Medicine Hat Taekwondo Youth Foundation,” Fedoruk said.

“I’ve owned and operated 11 restaurants in Brooks, Medicine Hat, and Redcliff, and I’ve worked overseas on two occasions as a marketing catalyst.”

“But for council, this would be the first time entering into any type of municipal or provincial federal politics,” he added.

Fedoruk has his Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta and worked with Edmonton Social Services before moving to Medicine Hat.

After moving, Fedoruk worked with Alberta Social Services in the city. Fedoruk has called Medicine Hat home for nearly 49 years.
