Tigers take down Oil Kings, extend win-streak to four games

Oct 8, 2025 | 11:03 PM

The Medicine Hat Tigers defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-2 on Wednesday night inside Co-op Place to take control of first place in the Central division.

Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll opened the scoring late in the first period on the power play with a perfectly placed wrist shot above the shoulder of Ethan Simcoe to move the Tigers ahead 1-0.

Edmonton forward Gavin Hodnett would tie the match at one five minutes into the middle frame, with a shorthanded tally, but the tie was short-lived as minutes later Jonas Woo restored the Tiger lead.

Medicine Hat carried the 2-1 lead into the third, and Misha Volotovskii would extend it to two with his fourth of the season on a breakaway as a Tiger penalty kill expired.

Edmonton would get back within a goal with six minutes remaining, but it would prove too little too late as the Tigers added a pair of empty netters to emerge with a 5-2 victory.

Jordan Switzer made 25 saves in the win, while Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll had another two-goal night, earning first-star honours for the second consecutive game.

The Tigers are back in action Friday night in Calgary to take on the Hitmen for the final game of a four-game stretch of all Central Division opponents.

Puckdrop is slated for 7:00 p.m. from the Scotiabank Saddledome, and the pre-game show gets underway at 6:45 p.m. on WILD 94.5 FM.
