Canstruction raises over 13K pounds of food for Root Cellar

Canstruction has concluded at the Medicine Hat Mall for another year.

This year 13,212 pound of food was raised for the Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub through the event.

The competition includes a pair of teams building CanArt structures out of non perishable food items to compete for awards and help benefit the local food bank.

Voting was close this year according to a social media post from the Root Cellar, with some categories decided by fewer than 5 points, and nearly 300 community votes cast both online and in the mall.

Competing in this years event were Canadian Fertilizer and Methanex.

Winners in each category were:

• Most Cans Used – Methanex
• Best Meal – Canadian Fertilizer
• Best Original Design – Methanex
• Best Use of Labels – Methanex
• Structural Integrity – Canadian Fertilizer
• People’s Choice – Methanex

Methanex came away with four of the six voted categories in the close competition.

The Root Cellar said in a statement that it was an amazing display of creativity, design, and community spirit.

They added that the food donation will go a long way in helping support the community.
