Jul 20, 2025 | 6:00 AM

Medicine Hat’s Gary Grinnell has won $10,759.50 through the Split the Pot Lottery.

“I was shocked! Really shocked,” said Grinnell.

“I’ve never won anything this big before. So, it was nice, and I was happy,” he added.

“The wife has always wanted the bathroom upstairs redone, so I think she’s going to get her wish.”

The Split the Pot Lottery is a monthly lottery where when you buy a ticket and choose which hospital or healthcare foundation in Alberta to support.

The Medicine Hat Health Foundation is one of 35 participating hospitals and health foundations across the province.

Proceeds from Split the Pot, including ticket purchases specifically in support of the Medicine Hat Health Foundation, go toward its cardiac care campaign Seconds Save Lives.

Through the campaign the health foundation said they are improving cardiac care equipment and facilities at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

Every month a new lottery begins, with draws and prizes every week on Thursdays.

On the final Thursday of every month, 50 per cent of the growing jackpot is donated as proceeds, and the remaining 50 per cent is split between 13 winners.

One winner receives 60 per cent of that half-jackpot, two winners receive 20 per cent split between them, and 10 winners receive 20 per cent split between them.

Grinnell was one of the two winners splitting 20 per cent from the June 2025 lottery.
