A business owner in Medicine Hat is making a small gesture in an effort to show solidarity with other businesses in the city.

Many Canadians are becoming fed up with imposing threats from president-elect Donald Trump.

Ongoing comments and promises regarding implemented tariffs have been perpetual, concerning the Canada-U.S trade.

Shelly Roll, owner of Twinkle Dolls clothing boutique in Medicine Hat, is displaying a Canada flag in the window of her shop.

“We all have to come together on something like this, and have an impact, and have some solidarity in the whole situation,” she said.

This may typically be seen as an act of patriotism or pride for her country, but it’s all that and more in this case.

It’s in regards to seemingly inevitable trade tariffs that have been promised, a way of saying Canadian businesses stand together.

Roll said that suppliers have already contacted her worried, letting her know that prices are going to be raised.

She said that putting the flag on display gives peace of mind, seeing other businesses come together by doing the same.

“Everybody is worried about this. And that’s why I feel that we have to be strong and stick together and represent Canada,” she said.

“That’s why I’ve put my flag in the window, so that other businesses will come to putting maybe a flag in their window,” she added.

“Medicine Hat is such a down-to-earth hometown, and when something’s bad, they know when to come together.”

Roll said that, with a small business like hers, they often fight the dollar because not much product is supplied in Canada.

When prices are increased, she has to pass it on to customers, and would prefer not to do so.

She said now is the time to show the rest of the world here in Medicine Hat how important it is for us to stick together.
