Medicine Hat crown prosecutor appointed as justice for Southern Region

Dec 5, 2024 | 7:01 AM

Medicine Hat’s chief crown prosecutor has been appointed as a justice for Alberta’s Southern Region.

Jason W. Cowan has been working in the Medicine Hat Crown Prosecutors office since January of 2012 and last month was promoted to Acting Chief Crown Prosecutor in the south region.

His appointment as justice is effective on Dec. 16.

Cowan is one of three new justices appointed by the province.

Sara L. Bragg was appointed for the Calgary Criminal Division.

Bragg has been an instructor at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law and an associate at Miller Thomson LLP in Calgary.

She has also been a full time justice of the peace since 2017.

Susanne Stushnoff, KC, received an appointment as a justice for the Edmonton Civil Division.

In a release, the province says filling vacancies in the justice system will increase court capacity and ensure Albertans can resolve civil, criminal and family matters faster.
