The Dunmore Equestrian Society has made significant progress on their indoor riding arena in Dunmore, with the facility expected to be ready for operation at some point in December, officials say.

The occupancy permit from the contractor was granted last week.

A group of volunteers have been putting in long hours throughout November to get the riding area ready.

The perimeter area of the arena is nearly ready, the grandstands are being completed, as well as the supporting corrals and equipment to allow the facility to be used.

The chutes are also set up to host events with bucking stock.

Equestrian society president Kelly Creasy said the fully insulated building will help keep the cool weather out for the initial operation.

“We have our ventilation system in here. We don’t have heat today, and we’re still looking for additional funds to put the heat in here,” Creasy told CHAT News on Monday.

“There’s lots of things we want to do in here, and we’ll just keep working towards getting it exactly where we want it to be.”

Creasy added there is a lot of excitement in the community to get things rolling in the arena.

“We’ll start scheduling some night events, or people will book the arena to do various things,” Creasy said.

“Then we’ll be looking at putting on events on the weekends as well.”

Until the facility is ready to open they haven’t booked events yet into the winter, but they will have an indoor high school rodeo in the spring.
