New detour in place Monday for gas well decommissioning in Medicine Hat

Road construction season may be over, but motorists will want to watch for another detour starting on Monday in Medicine Hat’s Southeast Hill neighbourhood.

It will be in the eastbound lanes of Spencer Street Southeast, where traffic will be diverted to accommodate the decommissioning of private gas wells on the former ADM flour mill property.

Traffic will be diverted over the median into the westbound lanes by a temporary asphalt ramp, and the road will be down to one lane in both directions from the curve on Allowance Avenue to the intersection of Dunmore Road.

The work to decommission the three natural gas wells is expected to be completed by Dec. 6.
