Art in Motion to bring creativity and family fun to downtown Medicine Hat on Saturday

Sep 24, 2024 | 1:39 PM

An event celebrating Medicine Hat’s vibrant art and culture will take over parts of downtown this weekend.

Art in Motion will transform the Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre, Towne Square, Riverside Veterans’ Memorial Park, and part of First Street Southeast into a lively hub of creativity, family fun and community engagement, the city said.

The event runs from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The festivities aim to foster unity in Medicine Hat, according to Esplanade cultural programs coordinator Candace Lundrigan.

“Art in Motion is all about bringing our community together to celebrate creativity and culture,” Lundrigan said.

“We are excited to create an interactive experience that inspires everyone to engage with the arts in a fun and meaningful way.”

The city said it will engage with the public on its Arts, Heritage, and Entertainment Plan at the event.

Staff said the public’s voice is crucial as the city builds a city with artistic expression, rich heritage, and diverse entertainment.

Those who are interested can stop by the main floor lobby of the Esplanade on Saturday from 12 to 3 p.m. to share feedback. More information is available on the Shape Your City project page.

To facilitate the event, along with setup and takedown, First Street Southeast from Maple Avenue Southeast to Fourth Avenue Southeast will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
