The Town of Kindersley in Saskatchewan has been ordered to pay $175,000 after a worker was fatally injured when entering a sewer manhole.

The workplace death happened two years ago, and the town pleaded guilty last week to one Occupational Health and Safety violation.

The town was charged with failing to prevent a worker from being exposed to a hazardous substance, causing death.

It was fined $125,000, plus a $50,000 surcharge.

Kindersley is located 255 kilometres north east of Medicine Hat.
