The Washboard Union concert at Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede one month away

Jun 25, 2024 | 4:00 PM

JUNO and nine time Canadian Country Music Association award winners The Washboard Union will take the stage at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede on July 25.

The band’s new single, “Band On Her T-Shirt,” hit the airwaves on May 24 with a music video set to release on July 5.

Their new record Westerly drops on July 12.

Band member Chris Duncombe said during their concert next month fans will get to hear songs both new and old.

“You’re going to get a whole lot. Yes, you’re definitely going to get pieces of the new record. There’s lots of songs that are going to be in the show from that record,” Duncombe said.

“We’re excited about that. But you’re also going to get all the songs you know and love from the Washboard Union,” he added.

“A bunch of surprises as well. So it’s an exciting show.”

Based out of Vancouver, B.C. The Washboard Union has been able to travel around the globe to perform their music for fans.

Duncombe said they are proud to be from Western Canada, adding that it’s special anytime they get to play shows in Alberta and B.C.

“Being able to get out and play in front of people is the greatest gift as a musician you can get,” Duncombe said.

“Anytime we get to travel as a band, it’s a great opportunity. We travel well together. I mean, we’re best friends,” he added.

“Having my stepbrother be the other guy in the band, we’ve been together as a family and traveling as a band for most of our professional lives. I think it’s one of the parts we look most forward to.”

Duncombe said they seem to gain new fans with each live show.

“Yeah, it’s always funny. We sometimes end up with guys who’ve come up to us after or girls who’ve come up to us after the show and said, my boyfriend or my girlfriend dragged me here because I don’t really love country music, but I don’t know what it is. I love you guys,” Duncombe said.

“That’s always the greatest feeling as a band. I think for people who’ve seen the Washboard Union before or fans of our music, they know that our concerts are an hour and a half where you can just put all your troubles away. Have the time of your life. Sing along,” he added.

“That barrier between the stage and the crowd disappears at a Washboard Union concert. It’s a giant sing along. We’re having the time of our life and our fans are having the time of their lives. That’s what our shows are all about. The ability for us to be able to sort of bring that every time we come to a show is what this band is all about.”

Tickets for The Washboard Union concert on July 25 during the Medicine Hat Stampede are available exclusively through the Stampede box office, $69 for seating and $79 for the infield.

Ticket packages for all of the Stampede Night Shows which include Bret Michaels of Poison and The James Barker Band are also available, priced at $199 for seats and $229 for the infield.
