Bunnies hop their way into the hearts of a Medicine Hat accounting firm

Hippity-hop the stress away.

Every year after a stressful tax season, Medicine Hat accounting firm MNP Accounting does a “stress buster” event.

Normally, it would include a nice dinner and maybe some drinks to blow off steam. This year, they took a different approach.

With the help of Bunny Run Rabbit Rescue, the firm brought bunnies into the office for staff to enjoy and to even consider adoption.

MNP partner Delayne Sackman said the new approach was well received.

“I think the mood has definitely been uplifted,” Sackman said.

“Everybody came in with a case of the Mondays and they’re all leaving happy and smiling and hopefully, maybe adopting some of these bunnies.”

Bunny Run Rabbit Rescue focuses on catching and finding homes for abandoned domesticated bunnies.

Currently, 40 bunnies are either with foster families or at the Bunny Run intake center.

Bunny Run board member Lindsay Schafer said that bunnies are sometimes considered livestock or rodents, and estimates that there are 400 abandoned rabbits currently in Medicine Hat and surrounding area.

Shafer said that the benefits from having a pet rabbit comes from the companionship they offer.

“I think they’re so cute and cuddly and companionship is really nice to have,” Shafer said.

“I have bunnies at home. I love my bunnies and I can’t imagine not having them,” she said.

“It’s the same as people having cats or dogs – they bring a lot of joy and they do silly things and they’re a lot of fun to watch and spend time with.”
