Caelan Walton will lead the "Deer Oh Deer! Nature Walk" at Police Point Park.

Deer Oh Deer Nature Walk aims to ‘foster a more respectful and educated connection with the wildlife and Medicine Hat’

The Medicine Hat Interpretive Centre regularly has visitors at the park interacting with urban wildlife.

This inspired Park Interpreter Caelan Walton to create the “Deer Oh Deer! Nature Walk”.

The walk will focus on seeing deer in their natural habitat, differentiating between white tail and mule deer and learning a little bit more about them.

Walton said deer are very prevalent in the city, with some people thinking of them as pests.

“Spend all summer chasing them away from their gardens, or they, they love them, but they don’t see them as a wild animal necessarily,” Walton said.

“They might try to feed them or pet them, or engage in other activities that could result in a human wildlife conflict,” he added.

“I was just inspired to spread some education and hopefully foster a more respectful and educated connection with the wildlife and Medicine Hat.”

The deer sighting nature walk will take place Thursday at 10 a.m.

Spots are limited and available by contacting the Interpretive Centre at 403-529-6225.
