‘We reluctantly made this decision’: Equipment rentals no longer available at Police Point Park

Popular activities in the winter include cross-country skiing and snowshoeing but residents will no longer be able to rent equipment from the Interpretive Centre.

Aging equipment and increased liability concerns mainly with the cross-country skis has resulted in the decision to discontinue the rental program.

Replacing the equipment is simply out of the budget at the moment, according to the organization that runs the centre.

Snowshoes rentals could return, but cross-country skis would be a challenge.

Philip Horch is president of the Grasslands Naturalists who oversee the Interpretive Centre.

He hopes to find a way to bring rentals back in the future.

“It’s not a huge part of our operations,” Horch told CHAT News.

“But it’s one we would like to continue if the insurance liability can be dealt with and if the cost of new equipment can be arranged in some way.”

“We reluctantly made this decision because we’re all about encouraging people to get outdoors and really enjoy nature police point, park and nature anywhere.”

Horch said they have already heard from people who have indicated they will miss the service.
