Alberta RCMP remove 23 impaired drivers from roads on Dec. 2

Dec 5, 2023 | 9:26 AM

On Dec. 2, what was the National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day, Alberta RCMP removed 23 impaired drivers from the roads.

Of those, 17 received immediate roadside sanctions (IRS) fails, and four received IRS warns.

Two received sanctions for failing to comply with breath demands, and all 23 had their vehicles seized.

One motorist was holding a GDL licence, one was a commercial semi-truck driver, and another was driving on a suspension having lost their licence from an earlier impaired driving IRS.

“The Alberta RCMP is dedicated to keeping our province’s roadways safe so that everyone can have a #DecemberToRemember this year,” a release states. “To all those choosing to drive sober this holiday season, thank you. With your help, Albertans are able to get home safely to their loved ones.”

RCMP could not offer region-specific data at this time.

Last year, there were 77 drivers removed from the road on the national awareness day.
