LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Connect Care system from Alberta Health Services (AHS) has been launched in seven additional health care facilities.

It is AHS’ seventh launch of Connect Care, which provides a central access point for patient information. It allows all health records from AHS and its subsidiaries and partners to be accessed through one system, while providing clinicians with common decision-making support. The launch took effect at 5 a.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2023.

Launch seven involved the following sites:

  • Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge
  • Medicine Hat Regional Hospital
  • Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray
  • Four Covenant Health sites
  • Associated pharmacy and laboratory services in the North and South health zones

There are now over 112,000 staff, physicians and other health care providers using Connect Care. The first Connect Care launch occurred in November 2019, and AHS said this will continue until the final implementation in the fall of 2024. When Connect Care is fully in place, about 118,000 staff and physicians will be using the system at 682 sites across Alberta.

Albertans who have visited a site where Connect Care in in place can have access to MyAHS Connect, which is an online portal where individuals can see their health information, test results, medications. They can also manage appointments and communicate securely with their AHS health care team.

President and CEO of AHS, Mauro Chies said, “Each Connect Care launch brings more front-line healthcare workers, physicians and patients together to improve care in every corner of Alberta.”

Chies added, “With Launch 7, we have reached an important milestone: all AHS and our partner acute care sites, ambulatory care locations, lab services and diagnostic imaging teams in Alberta are now using Connect Care, and we are approximately one year from the full implementation of Connect Care across the province.”

He concluded, “This gives health care teams a more complete health history for patients, access to consistent information on best practices, and resources at their fingertips while maintaining the privacy of their information. Health care teams can also communicate with patients and each other more easily.”
