Upgrades begin for Gas City Campground water service

Sep 25, 2023 | 1:41 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – With camping season coming to a close the City of Medicine Hat has begun a project to upgrade the Gas City Campground.

The city is also starting erosion remediation work on a section along the Northwest Riverside Trail.

The campground upgrade will include the installation of a new water service and backflow prevention device that will increase the safety and reliability of the campground’s water system.

The city says the water, sewer and electrical services to each individual campsite will not be affected and will remain fully operational. The work will take place in the corridor between the campground and the pump track site.

During the construction activities, there will not be access to the bulk sewer dump station or the bulk water fill station. Alternate bulk sewer dump and water fill amenities are available at the Medicine Hat Information Centre near the Saamis Tepee.

Remediation on Northwest Riverside Trail

The trail has been impacted by erosion from the South Saskatchewan River as well as overland drainage, says the city. The remediation project will stabilize the section south of the 800 block of Third Street NW.

The city says the trail will be closed between the Trans-Canada Highway trail connection and the Fifth Avenue NW entrance. As well, there will be no access to the trail from Third Street NW.

The project was funded in part by a grant from Trans Canada Trail to enhance the Medicine Hat section of Canada’s national trail.

The work is expected to be finished in the middle of October.

The city thanks residents for their patience and understanding during the projects and asks people to obey construction and closure signage.
