Red Deer rent down month-over-month, up year-over-year

Aug 16, 2023 | 9:18 AM

The average rent for a one-bedroom suite in Red Deer this July was $1,181.

A two-bedroom was going for $1,357.

Those figures, according to latest National Rent Report, are down from $1,249 and $1,379, respectively, in June.

Compared to a year ago, a one-bedroom in Red Deer was $1,102 and a two-sleeper was $1,198

Typically, Red Deer appears on the report’s 35-community list but this month was knocked off it — not because its rates don’t fit into the top 35 but because recent data for Red Deer is limited, a spokesperson says.

If it had made the list, it would be 32nd, just above Lethbridge and just below Edmonton for a one-bedroom.

Alberta municipalities above Red Deer include Calgary at 26th ($1,718), and Edmonton at 31st ($1,197), for one-bedrooms.

The national average is $1,860 — up from $1,837 — for a one-bedroom, and $2,296 — up from $2,249 — for a two-bedroom.

Vancouver remains number one in the country at a whopping $3,013 for a one-bedroom and $3,918 for a two-bedroom.
