CROWSNEST PASS, AB – Officials say they made an unfortunate discovery while searching for two hikers who were overdue to return home.

At approximately 10 p.m. on July 26, the Crowsnest Pass RCMP said it was notified of two overdue hikers who were walking along the North York Creek Plane Crash Trail near Coleman.

Search and Rescue (SAR) assisted the RCMP in the investigation.

SAR located two deceased hikers at the bottom of a ridge at Mount Coulthard around 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Long Line Helicopters from Fernie attended and recovered the bodies.

The two deceased have been identified as 34- and 35-year-old men from Lethbridge. Their names are not being released at this time.

The City of Lethbridge has confirmed that one of the victims was Greg Gaudette, a firefighter/paramedic in the community. Flags will be lowered to half mast at city hall and Lethbridge’s five fire stations in his honour.

A GoFundMe identifies the other victim as Jonah Swen, a paramedic and RN.

The RCMP extends its condolences to the friends and families of the two.
