MEDICINE HAT, AB – Monday will be a day of celebration for the 2313 Medicine Hat Army Cadets as the day marks the annual ceremonial review. 2023 marks 75 years for the 2313 South Alberta Light Horse (Kiwanis) Cadets and among those attending is a special guest. General Wayne Eyre, chief of the Defence Staff of the Canadian Armed Forces will be attending Monday’s ceremony in which he will be the reviewing officer.

General Eyre was once himself a member of the Medicine Hat Cadets from 1980 to 1984 before he went to attend the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, ON. He took role as chief of the Defence Staff in 2021, a position that makes him the professional head of the Canadian military.

Lieutenant Trevor Eichelbaum says that the event will be a celebration of the cadets’ accomplishments and their hard work over the past year.

“This year our reviewing officer and special guest in chief of the defence staff General Wayne Eyre. On Monday we will be celebrating our 75th ACR, it will be out here in the yard at the armories, the public is invited to join and it runs from 4 pm to 6 pm. What they can expect is to witness the culmination of a year of cadet training and witness some of our fine cadets doing drills, parading, and receiving awards,” Lieutenant Eichelbaum said on Thursday.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Patterson Armoury at 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and the public is welcome to attend.
