May 23, 2023 | 11:32 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The City of Medicine Hat is introducing a new program that will offer funding to residents to organize activities and events that strengthen bonds within their community and neighbourhood.

Up to $500 is available in two Community Microgrants categories – Community Connections and Arts, Culture, and Heritage.

“So we want to hear from people who are excited about doing events or projects in our city and empower them to push that over the goal post by giving them a grant,” said Mayor Linnsie Clark.

To be eligible for a Community Connections microgrant, proposed events must fulfill one or more of the following objectives:

  • Foster respect and celebrate diversity
  • Build relationships and opportunities for neighbours to connect
  • Offer the sharing of resident’s skills and knowledge
  • Foster neighbourhood and/or community pride

To be eligible for an Arts, Culture, and Heritage microgrant, proposed events must fulfill one or more of the following objectives:

  • Co-created with others, such as community art projects, community band concerts, or heritage tours
  • Honour Indigenous culture
  • Advance arts in the community such as multicultural music festivals
  • Animate the community, such as street parties, outdoor movies nights, or murals
