Pit bull terrier in need of a home

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Rescue dogs often find a home within two months.

But this isn’t the case for Queen Diva Bailey, a five-year-old pit bull terrier mix, who’s been patiently waiting at the Medicine Hat SPCA for a family for a year now.

Kaylee Getz, the animal health lead and a registered vet technician of the Medicine Hat SPCA, says the reason for Bailey not being adopted is she wants the complete loyalty of her owner.

“Bailey would like to be the only pet in the home. So generally speaking that does it make quite difficult to find the right placement. There’s a lot of people looking to adopt, whether a friend for their other pet or have kitties or young children in the home, but Bailey does require a home where she is the only pet,” said Getz.

Considering Bailey’s been in the shelter for so long, she’s starting to experience some shelter distress, and staff are trying to make her feel more comfortable.

“She spends the majority of her time in our staffroom here, being away from the other dogs so she can relax and nap and have lots of toys and her bed, and hang out with the ladies at lunch, trying to steal some lunch,” said Getz.

While Bailey’s been waiting for her pet parents for some time, her happy-go-lucky attitude is still present. Staff hope to see Bailey placed in her forever home soon.
