Maple Creek RCMP say longtime teacher charged with sexual assault

MAPLE CREEK, Sask. –

Update April 28/23–Maple Creek RCMP received an additional report of a historic sexual assault on April 26th, 2023. Investigation determined an adult male allegedly assaulted a male youth during a sports-related trip.

.As a result, on April 27, 2023 Dexter Bacsu was re-arrested and charged with one count of sexual assault, Section 271, Criminal Code and one count of sexual interference, Section 151, Criminal Code.

He is next scheduled to appear in Maple Creek Provincial Court on May 11, 2023 (Information 90458684).

Investigators continue to believe there may be further victims. Saskatchewan RCMP say a longtime teacher and volunteer in Maple Creek is accused of sexually assaulting a boy in the early 2000s.

Mounties say the suspect was a teacher and continued to work as a substitute teacher until recently.

The school division says he is no longer an employee.

RCMP say he also volunteers with local youth sports and music programs, including as a coach and trip chaperone.

Dexter Bacsu, who is 64, is charged with one count of sexual assault related to a sports trip.

Police say a sexual offences complaint can be made at any time and there could be other complainants.
