LETHBRIDGE, AB – Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for all of Alberta and many other regions across the country.

The extreme cold warning was issued at 3:41 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2023.

Environment Canada says extremely cold wind chill values near minus 40 degrees Celsius are expected overnight on Wednesday.

β€œThe wind chill may moderate during the day but extreme cold will continue through the week,” says the weather forecaster.

According to Environment Canada, the risks associated with extreme cold are the greatest among young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

The public is asked to watch for cold-related symptoms, including shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness, and colour change in the fingers and toes.
