Tow truck companies reminding people to slow down following crash near Swift Current

Dec 28, 2022 | 9:41 AM

A tow truck driver from Swift Current is recovering with his family by his side after an accident on Highway 1.

In a post on Facebook, Low Cost Towing wrote “something horrific happened just outside of Swift Current. One of our tow truck heavy wreckers was assisting a semi that was in a ditch and needed a winch out service. While our operator was working on their truck, another semi struck our wrecker and the truck we were assisting.”

The company says the tow truck is extremely damaged and our operator was injured. “Our tow family is shaken and can’t understand how this could happen.”

It is the law to slow down to 60 km/hour and to move over when approaching a tow truck with all its blue and amber lights on.

The company says road conditions were “extreme” last night and believe the semi unit that was involved in this crash was likely travelling too fast for the conditions.

Locally owned and operated Auto Spa Towing here in Medicine Hat also posted on Facebook that their entire fleet was grounded on Tuesday morning until road conditions improved to protect staff.

Auto Spa also tells CHAT News the owner of a towing company in Kindersley, Sask. is in hospital with massive injuries after being hit on Christmas eve

Both companies are urging everyone to move over and slow down so no one else gets hurt.
