11-car derailment hampering travel on Highway 3 near Taber

TABER, AB — Travel on Highway 3 just east of Taber is restricted to a single lane, after the derailment of some cars on a CP freight train early this morning.

11 rail cars were reported to have derailed around 12:10 a.m. at various locations between Highway 36 and Range Road 162.

No injuries were reported and no dangerous goods or hazardous contents have spilled.

CP Police remain on scene with Volker Stevin highway control services.

Motorists are advised of delays while the clean-up process continues.

The RCMP is advising drivers to avoid travelling if possible. If travel is necessary, police ask motorists to slow down and adjust their driving to the conditions of the road.
