Rattlers introducing women’s hockey club team for 2022-23 season

Jul 26, 2022 | 3:03 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat College will ice a women’s hockey team in the fall.

The Rattlers say women’s hockey will debut in the 2022-23 season as a club program with practices, exhibition games and off-ice training. The program will not have official membership in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference, but players will have access to the same events and opportunities as all Rattlers student-athletes.

“People in this community are passionate about hockey and have been asking about the potential for a women’s team here at MHC,” explains Terry Ballard, manager of athletics and recreation, in a release.

“We are thrilled to add hockey to our roster as a club team and gauge the interest of our student population with hopes of putting forward an application to join the ACAC women’s hockey league next year.”

Bringing women’s hockey to Medicine Hat at the college level has been a long time coming, says MHC.

Conversations about which arena the team will play out of are taking place with the City of Medicine Hat.

Any female hockey players who will be attending Medicine Hat College this fall are encouraged to connect with the athletics department for more information.
