Cirque du Soleil OVO family has renewed appreciation for performances and live crowds

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Cirque du Soleil has thrilled and delighted in its first two performances of OVO on Wednesday and Thursday, with four more shows still to come.

Medicine Hat is the second stop on the Canadian leg of the tour.

“We started our Canadian leg last week in Lethbridge, Alberta and they’re just so supportive, so vocal and applause and cheering us on,” says senior publicist Janie Mallet. “It’s a good time to be back in Canada and touring with Cirque du Soleil.”

The 100-person OVO team includes 52 performers as well as technicians, wardrobe people, tour management and more.

Another 100 locals assisted with stage set up after the tour’s 20 semi-trucks arrived at Co-op Place early this week.

Mallet, who tours with OVO as part of the management team, says when the pandemic hit, Cirque shut down all 44 of its shows basically overnight.

That delay has the entire OVO family excited to be back on stage after almost two years of waiting

“So to be back now and to have you know everything running and to be able to meet audiences and to come and tour again, we all do it definitely with a renewed sense of appreciation,” says Mallet. “It is, we’re not taking it for granted even moreso now than ever. And just to hear the audience and the crowd to remind us of what we do, why we do what we do and to do what we love full-time again. Definitely special.”

There is one show Friday and two Saturday before the finale Sunday afternoon.
