The Kinsmen Aquatic Park at Medicine Hat’s Big Marble Go Centre is finally re-opening on Friday.

The popular water park was closed in May for upgrades that were completed in September.

Pool filters were replaced, amenities were upgraded and staff safety was improved with better access to the wave pool surge tank, according to a city news release.

The park includes a lazy river, leisure wave pool, tot pool, hot tub, steam room, 25-metre lane swim pool, variable depth pool, dive tank, a giant snake waterslide, two one-metre diving boards, two platforms and a rope swing.

The park’s re-opening means a full slate of programming returns, as does the standard pricing of memberships and fees after an adjustment was in place during the closure, the city said.

To book swim parties and view the latest swim schedule, visit the public swimming page. Residents may also view the swimming lessons page to register for upcoming lessons.

Medicine Hat’s recreation manager Scott Richter said the aquatic park is important to city’s recreational offerings.

“Kinsmen Aquatic Park is a vital part of our network of recreational facilities that provide the opportunity for a high quality of life, community health and well-being for our residents,” Richter said.

“The Kinsmen sponsor public swimming certain nights, so we just encourage people to get on the website, look at other programs. There’s rentals available for birthday parties with the wibit inside the pool, of course lane swimming, all those things,” he added.

“Really trying to get back to normal for people, and I know everybody really is looking forward to coming back to the pool.”

The Medicine Hat Public Library will also launch its new presence at the recreation centre on Friday.
