Police asking for info from public on possible drug houses, community harm

May 20, 2022 | 1:58 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Some residents in Medicine Hat may have received a letter from police about community harm and community policing in their neighbourhood.

In the letter, police say they’ve had success shutting down drug houses through community policing efforts.

Police are asking for anonymous information about activities commonly associated with drug houses

Information about license plates and vehicles and descriptions of people are particularly useful, police say

The signs of a drug house include:

  • increase in vehicle and people traffic at all times of the day
  • unusual strong odours
  • decline in the appearance of the home’s exterior and landscaping
  • residences with blackened windows, unusual amounts of garbage
  • unfriendly residents who appear secretive about their activities
  • residents who drive expensive vehicles but do not appear to work.

The letter does not mention a specific neighbourhood but online posts identify the Riverside area.

Police say community harm is defined as activity that negatively affects the health, safety or security of one or more persons in the neighbourhood or interferes with the peaceful enjoyment of one or more properties in the neighbourhood.
