Local energy services companies looking to hire

Apr 14, 2022 | 2:30 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The familiar rollercoaster of Alberta’s energy industry is gaining momentum thanks to oil prices over $100.

Local oil and gas companies are ready to ride that high with many of them looking to hire workers this month in preparation for the end of spring breakup.

“We’re going to have a very short breakup this year we know that much so probably a couple of weeks,” says Jade Hough, recruitment advisor for Calfrac Well Services. “Not very long and then we hit the ground running. We are busy, busy, busy all the way until the end of the year. Obviously that’s as far as we can see right now but busy busy busy. The outlook is fantastic, we’re seeing growth, we’re predicting growth. The future looks bright for Calfrac and I think for the oil and gas industry.”

Everything from frac and coil operators to well testing supervisors can be found among the 25 industry postings that are on job site Indeed right now.

Many of those postings belong to Calfrac Well Services, which needs operators who have their Class 1 licence.

Hough says the company’s operator-in-training program pays for people to get the licence but they need people who already have it. She says each week the Medicine Hat branch gets a handful of resumes from people with their Class 1, but they need more.

“We need a large amount of people. We’re trying to fill a full frac crew,” she says. “So if we’re talking numbers, upwards of 60 people that we need with that Class 1 license and also a bit of skillset where they’re able to drive off-road and not just drive on the highway.”

Pronghorn, STEP Energy Services and Element Technical Services are some of the other local energy companies with jobs posted.
