COVID hospitalizations in Alberta fell by more than 400 in less than one month

Mar 3, 2022 | 3:55 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

539 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 527,102. Of those, 7,945 cases are active while 515,211 people have recovered.

With 2,846 tests conducted in that time, the positivity rate was 18.9 per cent.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the number of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, 79 people tested positive.

Active infections in the region decreased by six, but in the city, rose by 23.

Since yesterday’s update, seven Albertans died from COVID with five in the Edmonton Zone and one each in the Calgary and North Zones. To date, 3,946 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 1,204 patients are currently hospitalized including 80 who have been admitted to intensive care. this marks decreases of 27 for hospitalizations and four for ICU compared to our most recent report on Wednesday.

Hospitalizations reached an all-time peak on February 7 when 1,623 people had been admitted. This means that, in a little under one month, this number has fallen by 419.

Below are graphs showing how COVID-19 in Alberta has trended since the start of the pandemic, which can also be accessed with more detail here.
