Shaun Majumder full of love ahead of Medicine Hat standup show

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Shaun Majumder is spreading love in Medicine Hat tonight just in time for Valentine’s Day.

The Canadian comedian is on a mini standup run in the Prairies and will perform at the Esplanade tonight.

“The idea of going back out on tour and doing these shows, it’s something we have to do we have to get back to some sort of normal and I think people are really hungry for some laughs and some entertainment,” he said this week minutes before his Moose Jaw show.

Majumder began his first tour in more than two years on Monday in Regina. It was a small audience there, something he says he understands with some people still feeling uncomfortable in large crowds.

Things are looking up in Medicine Hat, though with only a few dozen available seats left.

Majumder says people are hungry for laughs and entertainment and his material for the Love Tour is pretty COVID-free.

“My last tour was called the Hate Tour and you know it was really pointed and opinionated and I had lots of opinions about things,” he says. “And this show I just wanted to kind of do a show where I’m telling stories about what’s been going on in my life and make it light and you know.”

“There’s some edge to it but it’s not the same kind of you know I’m not as opinionated about stuff, only stuff that I’m going through personally which is a different take from what I did on my last tour. “But there’s a part of my brain with all the stuff that’s going on right now I’ve got a lot to say. But I’m trying to keep it not political.”

He says his whole show remains a work in progress and is writing and testing new material each day.

He adds he is also a work in progress.

“The insecurity of like dude I haven’t been on stage for a while, am I going to suck,” he laughs. “And I didn’t suck in Regina so I’m happy about that. So we’re off to a good start.”

Tickets are still available for tonight’s 7:30 show.

Also an actor, Majumder stars in the new show “From,” out in April in Canada.

“It’s from the same people that did ‘Lost,'” he says. “There’s no comedy to it, it’s a heavy drama and I play a priest in a small town where people get stuck and night monsters come after you and eat you. Pretty simple premise.”
