Delay on tap for some Hatter’s holiday trash pickup

Dec 21, 2021 | 5:26 PM

Some residents will have to hold on to Christmas waste a little longer than normal due to the city’s holiday pickup schedule.

There will be no trash collection next Monday or Tuesday, meaning some areas won’t have garbage pickup at all next week, says city hall.

The impacted areas are zones three and four, which includes the Flats and Southridge. Residents in those areas will have to wait until after new years.

Also, there won’t be garbage collection anywhere in the city on the Monday following New Year’s Day, Jan 3.

The city recommends an emphasis on recycling bins.

“Having the recycling definitely helps,” Jaime Garland, services manager of the city’s assets department said, adding, “In the old days when we didn’t have curbside recycling or the depots it was even tougher but now with the blue carts we encourage people to utilize that as much as possible. Put your recyclables in there. And we also have the recycling depots at the three spots through the city.”

The areas chosen for pickup next week are based on a regular holiday rotation.
