NEW YORK — Vancouver goaltender Thatcher Demko has been named the NHL’s first star of the week after backstopping the Canucks to their longest winning streak of the season.

Demko went 4-0-0 with a 1.20 goals-against average, .962 save percentage and one shutout to help the Canucks win their first four games under new head coach Bruce Boudreau.

Boudreau took over behind the bench Sunday after the struggling Canucks went through a major house cleaning that included the firings of coach Travis Green and general manager Jim Benning.

After opening the week with a 4-0 shutout of Los Angeles on Monday, Demko posted shootout victories over Boston and Winnipeg before finishing the week with a 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.

Hurricanes centre Sebastian Aho was named the second star and Colorado defenceman Devon Toews was named third star.

Aho had five goals and two assists in three games for the Hurricanes last week, while Toews led the league with seven assists in four games.
