Scotiabank Smiles for Christmas

Parking tickets waived in Brooks, for a donation

BROOKS, AB – City Hall in one southern Alberta community is hoping to give more children a Merry Christmas, and at the same time give a break to some motorists.

The Toys for Tickets program is back once again in Brooks.

Parking tickets under $57 will be cancelled if $30 worth of toys is donated to the city.

The City of Brooks’ manager of administration says the toys will be distributed to families by the Scotiabank Smiles for Christmas toy drive campaign.

“There’s unfortunately a lot of children who may not have a Merry Christmas or anything like that without the Scotiabank smiles for Christmas or programs like that. So I just think it’s something for members of the community and the city to participate in,” Amy Rommens told CHAT News.

“We experienced a great response from the community with our Toys for Tickets campaign in the past and wanted to provide this program to the community again,” Rommens said in a statement.

Parking tickets must have been issued between Nov. 15 and Dec. 10.

Donated toys must be new, in their original wrapping, and appropriate for children under 12 years of age.

Those who have multiple tickets must bring in multiple new, unwrapped toys.

The deadline to hand in toys is end of day Dec. 13.
