Police on scene at high-risk incident involving weapons

MEDICINE HAT — What police described as a high risk incident, ended peacefully late Wednesday afternoon.

Members of the city police service went to a home in the 100 block of 1st Avenue S.W. to execute a search warrant.

They were looking for stolen property and weapons.

Everyone in the home left when ordered to exit, except for one adult male who barricaded himself inside, with the stolen property and weapons.

A standoff ended several hours later with the help of the Tactical and K-9 units and crisis negotiators.

The suspect surrended without injury.

The 39 year old city resident is in police custody awaiting several charges.

The MHPS would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter.

5:20 p.m. UPDATE: Police say the incident has concluded. More information regarding the incident will be released shortly, says MHPS.
