Olde Tyme Christmas Fair returns to Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede this season

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A holiday tradition returns Dec. 2 to the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede, as it hosts its 12th Annual Olde Tyme Christmas Fair.

As always, the event will be held in Pioneer Village with hotdogs, hot chocolate and s’mores by the campfire.

There will be hayrides and antique truck rides and all the buildings in Pioneer Village will be open.

Old Tyme Christmas committee chair Darlene Keeler says she can’t wait to see the smiles again after last year’s fair was limited due to COVID restrictions.

“We’ve had lots of kids come up in the past and say this is the best thing because we don’t really get to do anything for Christmas,” says Keeler.

“Seeing Santa and getting to do all this other neat stuff is just the start of our Christmas season,” is what Keeler has heard from people in the past.

The guest of honour that night will be the Jolly Old Man himself, but Keeler says even Santa Claus practices physical distancing these days, so children won’t be able to sit in his lap but can have pictures with him from in front of his sleigh.

It’s all free, but they will be checking at the gates for proof of vaccination.
