MEDICINE HAT, AB – A plan has been announced to transform a vacant school in the flats into loft-style apartments.

St. Louis School, located on Balmoral Street SE, has just been sold to Cambridge Investments for $550,000. The sale of the 110-year-old building was approved by the Catholic Board of Trustees on October 12.

The building was a former Catholic Board of Education and CAPE School and is situated on 0.8 of an acre.

Joel McNally with PH McNally says the local engineering firm primarily owns apartment buildings and the firm was looking for a new project. The plan is to turn St. Louis School into a replicate of the old Crystal Dairy Building.

McNally is hoping to get the project started soon.

“Get a nice spring start, spend the winter kind of making the plans and getting all the trades lined up but, really depends on the pandemic,” McNally said.

The sale is effective November 3, subject to ministerial approval.
