County of Newell offers COVID vaccination incentive

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The deadline is up for an incentive to get the COVID-19 vaccination at the County of Newell.

County employees had until yesterday to be vaccinated and get $100 dollars from their employer.

While County of Newell administration is still trying to confirm with some workers their vaccination status, Oct. 5 was the deadline to get the shot.

The county’s chief administrative officer, Matt Fenske, says 77 per cent of full-time workers have taken the county up on the incentive.

As for those workers who aren’t vaccinated, Fenske says the county is looking at a risk-based approach.

Employees who work isolated jobs may be judged not to be a concern, while others who work with the public may eventually need proof of negative rapid tests.

The County of Newell employs 64 people.
