Irrigation and trail rehabilitation work starting

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The city’s parks and recreation department has begin the winterization of irrigation infrastructure in city parks.

Work will begin in areas identified as Class C and moving through to Class A parks throughout the city.

The city says the work is expected to be completed by the end of October, weather permitting.

Also beginning this week and continuing through September, contractors will be rehabilitating existing parks and recreation trails at five locations, including:

  • Police Point Park (southwest area of the park)
  • Dan McCharles Park (full trail replacement)
  • SF Scott Park
  • Sunset Park
  • Vintage Park

Access to these trails will be closed during construction. Trail access to the southwest area of Police Point Park will block off will be blocked off but the remaining trails throughout the park will remain open.

Construction is also set to begin on the AJAX Coulee boardwalks. Work is expected to be complete by the end of November. Access to this trail will be closed and alternate routes will be marked in areas that permit.
