MEDICINE HAT, AB – Tomorrow evening, the Medicine Hat Drug Coalition will host its fourth annual event dedicated to honoring loved ones lost to overdoses.

Every year on August 31, the world recognizes International Overdose Awareness Day. Kym Porter with the drug coalition says it’s a memorial event, but also an educational one.

Some of the activities include a candlelight vigil, take home Naloxone kits and education on how to use them, an open mic and music.

Porter wants to stigmatize those affected by overdoses and says everyone is welcome at the event.

“To help bring awareness to the losses and honor the lives that are gone too soon. it’s to help make people aware this can happen to anyone, any family can be affected,” Porter said.

The event is being held outside the library from 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
