MEDICINE HAT, AB – A pair of local businesses are hoping to show strength in numbers and in community with a downtown gala next month.

Joely Augustino of Fig and Olive Charcuterie and Kreggan Scharnatta of Avara Garden Centre are putting together the Better Together Gala on Sept. 11.

The gala will take place at Avara on Second Street SE and admission includes drinks, appetizers, live music and a silent auction.

β€œThe purpose behind the Better Together Gala is to bridge our community together and to celebrate both our businesses Avara Garden Centre as well as Fig and Olive Charcuterie and bringing the businesses of Medicine Hat together surrounding downtown and abroad just kind of a celebration to encourage one another that we got through COVID and we can continue to do that,” said Augustino.

Fifty per cent of the proceeds from the evening will go to support the Sanare Centre, which offers sexual trauma counselling, community education and violence response services.

Augustino says the centre, formerly known as SARC, has been bridging and shouldering the community here in Medicine Hat throughout the pandemic and before it as well.

Scharnatta says silent auction items include hotel stays, artwork, gift cards for local businesses and much more.

He adds the gala is a chance for local business owners to showcase themselves and their services to each other and the community.

There are only 80 tickets available, more than half of which are already sold since sales opened on Friday.

Organizers are still looking for donations to the silent auction and you can reach out to them on their Facebook and Instagram pages.

The gates will open at 7 p.m. and the gala is white attire. Following the gala the celebration will continue across the street at The Mezz.
