MEDICINE HAT, AB — There’s more road work about to begin in Medicine Hat.

On Sunday, crews will begin work on a sanitary sewer lining project along Southview Drive SE from Trans-Canada Way to Dunmore Road.

Infrastructure project begins Sunday on Southview Drive

The work involves injecting epoxy into the sewer pipe – which means they don’t have to dig up the road and minimizes disruption to traffic.

The technology has been used on several other recent projects in the city.

Project superintendent Andy Motz says they’re also going to work in sections, at night, to lessen the impact on motorists even further.

“It’s a big area, but we’re only going to be in segments at a time,” says Motz.

“We will be set up at each manhole, but each segment will be completed in a localized area before moving on to the next work zone,” adds Motz.

It’s anticipated each segment will last 24 to 48 hours.

There’s more work scheduled to start on Monday, as crews with CP Rail will begin replacing failed wooden planks at the rail crossing at Rotary Centennial Drive and Box Springs Road North West.

The concrete upgrade is expected to provide a safer and smoother driving surface and reduce future maintenance at the crossing.

Division Avenue and Third Street closing August 16

Also on Monday, the intersection of Third Street and Division Avenue South will be closed to traffic.

That’s to accommodate ongoing work to replace aging infrastructure along Division Avenue south.

The gas utility will also be doing some work there.

The intersection will be closed until mid-fall.
